This blog is meant to be catty and humorous, but this post is an exception.
Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto, a proponent of populism, democracy, and progressiveness in a terribly backward section of the world, was brutally murdered yesterday as she waved to her supporters from her car. In a letter that she had written to a colleague before her death and instructed be released if she was killed she blamed Pervez Musharaf's security and intelligence forces for her assassination, as well as for repeated refusals to provide her with security. She had been in exile in London and Dubai for eight years before returning to Pakistan in October, less than a month later she was placed under house arrest. Fortunately this house arrest was brief, and she continued campaigning to return Pakistan to democracy.
She was an extraordinarily courageous person, and her loss is a loss to the world.
